On Wednesday 18 February two fully renovated family suites was unveiled at Pelgulinna Maternity Hospital. The suites were renovated within the framework of the year-end campaign instigated by the real estate company Colonna Kinnisvara.
The latest charity campaign of Colonna Kinnisvara and the Pelgulinna Maternity Hospital Support Fund was aimed at modernising two post-natal family suites. “Since one of our fields of activity is establishing homes, we decided to make our contribution to the earliest start in life being as homelike as possible, too,” said Roberto de Silvestri, a member of the management board of Colonna Kinnisvara.
According to interior designer Kard Männil, the aim was to create an environment in which both newborns and their parents feel good. “With the calm choice of colours and divided plan, I wanted to design a bright room where everybody feels welcome,” Männil explained. “So a fairly bleak room was been turned into a comfortable place to stay, and all its furnishings comply with hospital requirements in every respect: the room has to be easy to clean and the materials must be durable and hygienic.”
Each suite features a full en suite with toilet and bathroom, a kitchenette with a dining table and fridge and everything needed to take care of the baby.
Taking into account the condition and wishes of mothers who have just given birth, the new family suites have higher beds and rocking chairs in which they can nurse their child. The bed linen, towels and dressing gowns are in line with the soft colours of the suite. Since these early days are mostly spent in bed, there are four pillows instead of two, for added comfort.
“There are adjustable lights with dimmers, timber details, fun pegs and tiny framed clothes on the walls, which all contribute to setting the mood,” said Männil.
The renovated suites are located on the 4th floor and can be used on the basis of the regular price list of Pelgulinna Maternity Hospital. The first 30 families who stay in the suites will receive, as a gift, Dermoshop products to the value of 160 euros.
The renovation of the suites cost 25,000 euros, which was raised via telephone donations to the Pelgulinna Maternity Hospital Support Fund and with the support of Colonna Kinnisvara OÜ, Hansapost OÜ and Cofi AS. In addition, contributions were also made by Bauschmidt, Arhdisain, Blue Star, Duravit, H&M Home and Dermoshop.

Colonna Kinnisvara and the Pelgulinna Maternity Hospital Support Fund began working together in December 2013 when a charity campaign was launched for the purchase of a brand new, state-of-the-art incubator. The incubator, valued at 12,000 euros, was presented to the Intensive Care Department at the hospital in February last year.
